Step One: Figure out the type of auction you are looking for. Is it a public, dealer or a combination of both types of auction. If you are not a licensed car dealer, or you don’t know one, you won’t be able to participate in a dealer auction. Public auctions sometimes do not allow dealer participation. A combo auction is open to anyone and everyone.

Step Two: Now start the search. Scan newspapers, phone books and of course search online. Note the frequency, location, and type of auction. Also note if the auction specializes in any particular type of vehicle. Make a list of all of the pertinent contact information for each auction as well.

Step Three: Once you have located or even called an auction house near you, be sure to stay in touch. Get on their call list, email list or mailing list. This will allow you to be on top of when and where upcoming auctions will be.
